November 11 is Veterans Day

"How Do You Define Freedom?"

Doland will be hosting a Veterans Day Assembly and we need a video about Veterans Day to be shown at our Veterans Day program.
        • Your task is to create a multi-media project that includes voice, photos, and text that can made into a movie.
        • The best project in all of the fifth & sixth grade will be showcased at our program for the entire school, veterans and family members who attend.
        • Additional winning projects will be show-cased on the Doland website

        • First place will be featured at Veterans Day program on Nov. 11.
        • Second through fifth place will be featured on the website.

Rules:
  1. You will be using PowerPoint and Photo- Story 3, or any other tool that creates a movie file. (ask your teacher if you have another idea)
  2. Your voice must be included in the presentation.
  3. You can work in groups of 2 or by yourself. (your teacher will help you decide on your partner)
  4. Follow the directions below for each day's task to complete your presentation.
  5. Your final product can be no longer than two minutes.

Day 1


"How Do You Define Freedom?"
In order to make a quality presentation, you should first understand what Veterans Day is about. We will read some articles and watch some short video clips to learn about your topic.

1. Here is an example of a student made Veterans Day Tribute
    • There are 5 branches of the United States Military
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard

Discuss:
What do these organizations do for you? How do they provide freedom? What would life be like if we did not have men and women who serve in our military?

Day 2
  • Find images to include in your presentation. Below you will find some resources to gather pictures: (Save pictures in your computer folder, see video tutorial if you need help remembering how to save):

  • You will use Power Point Template to create slides with text and images
  • Click on the Power Point Template above and click save> Computer>go to networked Z drive folder and to computer folder and save.
      • insert copyright free pictures
      • add text
      • add color
      • change fonts
      • change colors
  • DO NOT add transitions or animations to your powerpoint. You will do that in Photo-Story 3
  • When your PowerPoint is complete you will save it in a .jpg format. Teacher will demonstrate.

Day 3
  • Complete each slide
  • Continue finding pictures from the approved sites (NOT GOOGLE)
  • You will be using Photo-Story 3 for your project (if you want to use a different movie editing tool than you need to get approval from your teacher)

  • Load the media into Photo-Story 3
  • Arrange your pictures on the time line
  • Save your project to your networked folder
  • Decide which pictures are going to have your voice
  • Write down what you are going to say
  • Get your microphone ready and start recording
  • Save often
Day 4 and 5

  • Continue working on presentation
  • Add your final touches such as transitions
  • You may include some background music
  • save your project
  • Have someone from another group preview your project
  • Render your FINAL project into .wmv format.
  • Show your teacher for grading and judging.

Stay on task!
  • You will receive a daily participation grade for each day that you are in the lab.
  • Raise your hand if you need help or have any questions.
